About
Tales From The Other Place is a speculative fiction series from three fresh British writers. Each standalone episode drops one impossible thing into an everyday life — a technology that probably shouldn't exist, a visitor who probably shouldn't be here, a door that definitely wasn't there yesterday — and listens closely to what it exposes about the human condition.
The strange element is never the point; it is the pressure that forces a choice nobody is ready to make. Blending dark humour, psychological tension and emotional vulnerability, the series uses the radical intimacy of full-cast audio to keep the focus where it belongs: on the relationship, the compromise, the thing someone can't take back.
Closer to The Twilight Zone than to Black Mirror, this is drama driven not by systems or villains but by recognisable people behaving questionably under impossible circumstances.
The Writers
The Nobodies
Marie Belsten is an award-winning writer for stage and screen, based in Devon, where she pays the bills as a copywriter. Her comedy-drama pilot Existential took four festival awards in 2023, and her play Malaise was crowned Enter Stage Write Grand Champion at the Birmingham Hippodrome. A former teacher of English Literature, Drama, and Media Studies, Marie has written mostly TV comedy-drama, sitcom and sketch, which makes The Nobodies — her first produced audio work — a foray into a new medium and a new genre.

As a writer of fiction and drama, Richard is drawn to questions of identity, memory and the promises people make about the future. Richard’s play True Spirit Pathway was produced in Edinburgh and London, and he is developing Operation Ganymede, about a historian whose life has been shaped by a secret wartime experiment. Richard is Professor of Modern History at the University of Exeter and the author of Churchill’s Empire and The Roar of the Lion, and co-hosts the podcast Churchill: The Finest Half Hour.

After 25 years in the games industry, Ned wrote and produced The Fungooms, five animated stories for children that found an audience worldwide. In 2018 he made a short film for Dartington’s Ordinary Extraordinary Festival, mentoring young adults with learning disabilities. His sitcom pilot Doppelgangers reached The Long List at Short Com in 2026, and he is now developing it alongside further sci-fi audio dramas and a dark comedy thriller feature.
